When we two parted
In silence and tears,
Half broken-hearted
To sever for years,
Pale grew thy cheek and cold,
Colder thy kiss;
Truly that hour foretold
Sorrow to this.
The dew of the morning
Sunk chill on my brow
It felt like the warning
Of what i feel now.
Thy vows are all broken,
And light is thy fame;
I hear thy name spoken,
And share in its shame.
They name thee before me,
A knell to mine ear;
A shudder comes o'er me
Why wert thou so dear?
They know not i knew thee,
Who knew thee too well;
Long, long shall i rue thee,
Too deeply to tell.
In secret we met
In silence i grieve
That thy heart could forget,
Thy spirit deceive.
If i should meet thee
After long years,
How should i greet thee?
With silence and tears.

말없이 눈물흘리며
여러해 떨어질 생각에
가슴이 찢어졌었지
그대 뺨 파랗게 식고
그대의 키스는 더욱 차가웠지
이 같은 슬픔
이미 예견되엇었지

내이마에 내려 앉았고
지금 이느낌을 경고하는듯한
느낌이었지
그대 맹세 모두 깨어지고
그대 명성도 시들해져
누군가 그대이름 말하면
나도 그부끄러움을 감출수없구나
남들 내게 그대이름 말하면
그 이름 조롱처럼 들리고
온몸이 소름끼치는데
왜 그리 그대 사랑스러웠을까?
내가 알던 그대는 남들은 모른다
내가 너무나 잘알고 있었던것을
오래 오래 그대를 한탄하리라
말로는 다못할 만큼 깊이
비밀리에 우린 만났었고
침목속에서 슬퍼하지
잊기 쉬운 그대 마음
속이기 쉬운 그대 영혼에.
오랜 세월 지난 뒤
만약 그대 다시 만나면
어떻게 그대를 맞이할까?
